The Boston Globe covers the wonderful story behind the story of a new children's book - My Sister, Alicia May - written be Nancy Tupper Ling and illustrated by Shennen Bersani.
Nancy Tupper Ling is a poet and author that wrote Our Fragile Emmissary, after her friend gave birth to a child with Down syndrome. She has used this poem as a basis for a children's book and has written My Sister, Alicia May which examines the lives of two real sisters, one of whom has special needs. The illustrator for this book, Shennen Bersani, is uniquely qualified for this job as she has a sister with Down syndrome.
The book isn't available until May 1st, but I have already added it to my "to read" list. Do you know of any good children's books discussing siblings with Down syndrome? What are your favorites and why? Post your answer in our new forum - Resources for Sibs.
