Resource of the Week - Down Syndrome Pregnancy Board at Babycenter

Saturday April 25, 2009

There are few things in life more terrifying in life than hearing that your unborn baby could have a health problem. There is an over-riding fear, grief at the loss of the baby you imagined, worry about the baby' health and a sense of isolation. Parents often feel that no one knows what they are going through.

One invaluable resource that I have recently come across is the BabyCenter's Down Syndrome Pregnancy Board.

This online "community group" lets parents that have received a prenatal diagnosis of Down syndrome "talk" to one another, share concerns and questions and provide support. The site requires registration and is moderated. It is up to each person how much, if any, of their story they want to share. Many people are frequent posters and others are "lurkers" - they don't post themselves but they do read all the information that is available.

I think that that this type of online support group is invaluable. Would you have used something like this during your pregnancy?
